Topics include the history and origin of the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights, an examination of key cases that have shaped US history and video observations of court proceedings - and of course - plenty of discussion.

    What You Will Learn

In this course, students are introduced to the American judicial and legislative systems. They become familiar with legal terminology, learn how to analyze cases, and explore how legal documents are composed. Students will read and discuss legal cases that highlight the particular characteristics of the US legal system and will view and discuss videos of court proceedings. Additional topics include a discussion of the US “trias politica”, the US Supreme Court, federal vs. state jurisdiction, and comparative legal systems. Additionally, by becoming familiar with US legal systems, students will gain a greater understanding of many aspects of US culture.
